The Books Cafe' - The House of the Spirits

It seems like ages that I don't write a post
about my Books Cafè!
Yesterday evening I realised that today
is the last Friday of the month
and I said to myself: "I don't want to miss another
Books Cafè just because I don't have time!!"
So I've tought that today I will talk to you about
one of my fav book, written by on of my fav writers:

"The House of the Spirits" by Isabel Allende.

autrici preferite:

"La Casa degli Spiriti" di Isabel Allende.

This is the debut book by Isabel Allende and is about a familiar saga in un unnamed country which is Chile under the dictator Pinochet.
Clara del Valle marries Esteban Trueba 9 years after the death of her official fiancè, Rosa del Valle, sister of Clara. Soon they have a daughter, Blanca, and then 2 twins, Jaime and Nicolas.

The book tells the stories of Clara, Blanca and her unlucky love, her daughter Alba, and all the events that happen to the Trueba family and which are very related to the political history
of the unmaned country.
I don't want here to make a summary of the book,- also because ithe plot is very long -
I want to talk about all the things that makes this book one of my fave.

First of all, the fascinating, strong women described in it. The misterious Clara, the passionate Blanca, the corageous Alba, the devoted Ferula. Women are the column, the heart and the guardian of every family and I just loved the way Isabel Allende described each one of her female character.

This book is full of magic, but described as a everyday life thing. The fact that Clara can predict the future is presented as a matter of fact, just like the fact that Rosa, her sister, is green haired. I've found this love for magic in everyday life also in other writers: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jorge Amado...maybe the South American writers can feel the magic much better than we can....
The result is a world in constance and delicate balance between the order, the hyerarchy and the unexpect, the magic...
....why this dichotomy seems to me a lot like the one between men and women?
